El sistema natural funciona, dando espacio a la gran variedad de efectos simbi\u00f3ticos que tienen lugar dentro del ecosistema. Estos efectos beneficiosos, los imitamos y aprovechamos para purificar Aguas Residuales de forma controlada. Por esto tambi\u00e9n se habla de \u201eHumedales Construidos\u201c o \u201eConstructed Wetland\u201c a sistemas de similar concepto.<\/p>\n<p>El sistema Fitotratamiento b\u00e1sico consiste en dos etapas: una C\u00e1mara S\u00e9ptica (tratamiento primario) y una Fitodepuradora (tratamiento secundario). La C\u00e1mara S\u00e9ptica remueve la gran parte de los s\u00f3lidos suspendidos y grasas del efluente, quitando part\u00edculas que sedimentan o flotan. La Fitodepuradora consta de un sustrato de piedras y arena, donde se plantan macr\u00f3fitas seleccionadas de entornos h\u00famedos. La Fitodepuradora realiza la purificaci\u00f3n biol\u00f3gica final del agua residual. Se reduce la contaminaci\u00f3n de la carga org\u00e1nica (DBO5* y DQO**) y de bacterias coliformes. El sistema garantiza cumplir los l\u00edmites legales vigentes. En los sistemas basados en la naturaleza como el Fitotratamiento, los microorganismos se asientan en la superficie del sustrato y degradan las sustancias que lleva el agua. El sustrato poroso y los rizomas de las plantas crean un ambiente ideal para la purificaci\u00f3n biol\u00f3gica de aguas contaminadas. Adem\u00e1s de los procesos biol\u00f3gicos, los procesos mec\u00e1nicos (efecto de filtrado) y f\u00edsico-qu\u00edmicos (adsorci\u00f3n y precipitaci\u00f3n) desempe\u00f1an un papel importante en el funcionamiento.<\/p>\n<p>El sistema Fitotratamiento <strong>reduce la contaminaci\u00f3n org\u00e1nica hasta en un 90% <\/strong> en las capas superiores del sustrato gracias a las actividades microbianas. Un requisito fundamental para una buena descomposici\u00f3n del carbono es el suministro de ox\u00edgeno a los microorganismos. Esto se asegura mediante una alimentaci\u00f3n intermitente, es decir, alternando fases de alimentaci\u00f3n con agua con fases de recuperaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>En efluentes cloacales, el nitr\u00f3geno se presenta mayormente en forma de nitr\u00f3geno amoniacal (NH4-N). El nitr\u00f3geno amoniacal puede transformarse en amon\u00edaco t\u00f3xico en el agua y convertirse en un peligro para la fauna acu\u00e1tica. En nuestros humedales construidos de flujo vertical, <strong>el nitr\u00f3geno amoniacal es eliminado por microorganismos<\/strong> amantes del ox\u00edgeno (aer\u00f3bicos) y convertido en nitrato. Este nitr\u00f3geno n\u00edtrico (NO3-N) permanece en las aguas residuales tratadas como producto final de la nitrificaci\u00f3n. Para la eliminaci\u00f3n del nitr\u00f3geno n\u00edtrico, es necesaria agregar otra etapa de tratamiento en la que se produce la desnitrificaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Si se requiere la <strong>desnitrificaci\u00f3n<\/strong> del nitrato, a\u00f1adimos a nuestros filtros de flujo vertical un humedal de flujo superficial. Las aguas residuales se vierten deliberadamente en las capas de agua m\u00e1s profundas, donde el nitrato-nitr\u00f3geno (NO3-N) se convierte en nitr\u00f3geno atmosf\u00e9rico (N2) mediante la microbiolog\u00eda presente en condiciones anaer\u00f3bicas. Este nitr\u00f3geno se escapa a la atm\u00f3sfera o se fija en las plantas.<\/p>\n<p>Est\u00e1 ampliamente documentado que los humedales construidos son muy buenos para <strong>reducir los coliformes fecales<\/strong>. Pudimos demostrar esta observaci\u00f3n de manera impresionante en una de nuestras plantas de tratamiento en Paraguay. Desde julio de 2014, un humedal construido trata las aguas residuales de un matadero de pollos. La planta est\u00e1 dise\u00f1ada para 400 m\u00b3\/d, pero se carga con hasta 800 m\u00b3\/d diarios. El sistema se puso en funcionamiento en julio de 2014. Desde entonces, la reducci\u00f3n de coliformes fecales a trav\u00e9s del Fitotratamiento ha estado casi siempre por debajo de los valores exigidos en la Uni\u00f3n Europea para las cuerpos receptores con uso humano. En los climas templados, el uso de juncos (Phragmites australis o Phragmites communis) ha dado buenos resultados. Cada primavera, los juncos vuelven a brotar de los rizomas que han invernado en el suelo. Los brotes de la planta enra\u00edzan a trav\u00e9s del cuerpo del filtro principalmente en el tercio superior y forman una rama muy ramificada. A medida que crecen, el suelo es penetrado una y otra vez, y la creciente masa de ra\u00edces hace que el sustrato crezca suavemente hacia arriba con el paso de los a\u00f1os. Tambi\u00e9n hay buenas razones para utilizar otras plantas:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Razones clim\u00e1ticas<\/strong>: En gran parte de las zonas clim\u00e1ticas tropicales y subtropicales no existen rodales naturales de juncos. Sin embargo, cuando se planta, es susceptible de sufrir da\u00f1os por insectos y es d\u00e9bil en la competencia con otras especies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Razones est\u00e9ticas y ecol\u00f3gicas<\/strong>: Un humedal construido puede ser un hermoso elemento de dise\u00f1o paisaj\u00edstico. La Achira (Canna indica), de la familia de plantas Cannaceae, ofrece una amplia gama de variedades con hermosas flores. A la \u201cCa\u00f1a de la India\u201d le encanta un lugar h\u00famedo y rico en nutrientes, siempre que no est\u00e9 inundado permanentemente. Se propagan muy bien por crecimiento de rizomas y pueden formar imponentes rodales en muy poco tiempo. Las especies nativas de Am\u00e9rica de esta planta ofrecen n\u00e9ctar en sus c\u00e1lices y son f\u00e1cilmente visitadas por polinizadores como colibr\u00edes y grandes mariposas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Por razones comerciales<\/strong>: Tiene sentido utilizar el sitio rico en nutrientes de un filtro de suelo para especies de plantas comercialmente viables. En el CIATEJ de Guadalajara (M\u00e9xico) se plantan, propagan y venden lirios ornamentales (Agapanthus africanus) en la propia planta de tratamiento del instituto. En Paraguay, el Pir\u00ed (Cyperus giganteus) prospera bien en la alternancia de sitios h\u00famedos y forma densos rodales. Bei der Beschickung ist darauf zu achten, dass zwischen den einzelnen Pumpintervallen l\u00e4ngere Pausen liegen, da es f\u00fcr die optimale Funktion einer Anlage notwendig ist, dass die Filter abtrocknen und ausreichend Sauerstoff in das Substrat nachstr\u00f6men kann. Eine kurz- und mittelfristige hydraulische \u00dcberlastungen schadet der Anlage nicht, sie regeneriert sich sobald sich der Normalbetrieb wieder einstellt.<\/p>\n<p>Bei lang anhaltender \u00dcberlast bildet sich eine Kolmationsschicht, eine d\u00fcnne Schicht aus Algen und Bakterien, die die Durchl\u00e4ssigkeit deutlich reduziert.
